After being elected as the as the deputy speaker of the Iraqi parliament on January 9, 2022, KDP's Dr. Shakhawan Abdullah gave his first interview as the deputy speaker to Bestoon Khalid, on January 17, 2022.

Other than the formation of the new cabinet in Baghdad, during the interview which was conducted on the historical citadel grounds in the disputed Kirkuk governorate, where Abdullah was elected to the parliament, Bestoon asked the newly elected deputy speaker about the destiny of the disputed territories between Baghdad and Erbil and the implementation of the article number 140 of the Iraqi constitution.

On the formation of the new cabinet in Baghdad, Abdullah said "Sadrists' veto against the State of Law Coaliton and Qais al-Khazali, a senior member of the Fatih Coalition and leader of the Iran-backed Asaib Ahl al-Haq, partaking in the new Iraqi government does not affect how the KDP negotiates with parties," adding "“That is a Shiite matter."
