Interview with Lithuanian deputy interior minister on immigration crisis

One week after interviewing Lithuanian deputy foreign minister, Bestoon Khalid interviewed Arnoldas Abramavicius, Lithuania’s deputy interior minister to follow up the immigration crisis on the Lithuanian border.

During the interview which was conducted on August 10, 2021, Arnoldas Abramavicius the Lithuanian government is offering some 2,800 Iraqi migrants in its country a free ticket home, telling them they likely will not be given refugee status.

“Of course conditions are not so good” in the camps, because they were “misled and cheated” into thinking they would get to western Europe, said Abramavicius. Vulnerable people, including minors and families, have been moved to better shelters, but the government was not prepared for the influx of migrants and the situation will likely worsen when winter comes, he added.
